Dear Library Supporter,
Here at the Gardiner Library, we’ve always believed in bringing library services to our community, wherever they are. These days, that means bringing the library to our patrons at home through online resources, curbside and pick-up window services, and limited in-person access for browsing, computer use and more.
The pandemic limited our fund-raising ability.
Money raised through fines, classes, and in-person fundraisers came to a halt in March. Now, more than ever, we are relying on your generous support to help us provide high-quality resources and programming. We are grateful to the community for approving the budget increase in 2019, which paid for our new energy efficient HVAC system.

Your gift helps us bring the library to you.
Thirty percent of the library’s annual budget is raised through fundraising. We ask you to support our efforts with a tax-deductible gift to the Gardiner Library’s 2020 Annual Appeal fundraiser.
The pandemic didn’t slow us down!
The Gardiner Library closed its doors because of the pandemic in March, but that didn’t stop us. Almost immediately, library staff started providing library services from our homes, assisting patrons with downloading eBooks, connecting them to our newly created virtual library, and finding local information to help support pandemic related issues. Numerous programs moved to our virtual platform, including writing classes for adults and teens, storytimes for children, Italian language classes, and more.

Patrons couldn’t check out print books, so they borrowed eBooks like crazy – almost 4,000 between mid-March and early June – and over 85 residents applied for a new library card. As summer approached, we organized a full line-up of summer programs for all ages including bookclubs, virtual performances, and writing contests. As we move into winter, we are adapting by offering themed curbside crafts and kits, which provide all the materials needed for an afternoon of creative fun at home. Our new BookMatch Reader’s Advisory and Resource Bubble services offer opportunities to receive librarian-curated lists of resources for all ages and needs.

We provide Internet access for the community.
As schools and workplaces moved online, the importance of Internet access has never been more apparent. The Gardiner Library prioritized helping our community stay connected through technology, providing access to our Wi-Fi networks and passwords outside the library, allowing laptops to be borrowed, and offering curbside printing, faxing and photocopying services.

Our reopening plan was safe, smart, and step-by-step.
Our staged reopening plan always prioritized safety for staff and patrons. With the guidance of RCLS, we now provide access to all items in our library system. Even now that the library is open, we continue to offer curbside pickup as a safe and convenient way to use the library.

Your support matters.
We’re proud of how we responded to our “new normal” and we are committed to adapting and changing alongside our patrons. We ask for your support in helping us to continue to provide innovative programming with a tax deductible gift to the Gardiner Library’s 2020 Annual Appeal letter.
