Read with dogs at the Gardiner Library
Beginning and struggling readers sign up to read to certified therapy dogs.  A fun, relaxed, stress free environment supports and encourages children's learning and confidence.

Dogs are ideal reading companions because they help the child relax.  Dogs listen attentively, and do not judge, laugh or criticize.  They are less intimidating than peers; and allow children to proceed at their own pace.

My Adventures With Taco!

This is Taco. Taco is a plush puppet available for "adoption” at the Gardiner Library. As part of the Mutt-i-grees program, children can borrow this puppet for one week along with a special book and journal to document their adventures. Please speak with a librarian if you would like to take Taco home with you!

The Mutt-i-grees program builds on children's affinity for animals and highlights the unique characteristics and desirability of shelter pets, while teaching children social and emotional skills. For more information about Mutt-i-grees, please visit
